A fuel-cap message may appear when the vehicle detects a concern associated with the filler opening or its seal. On a vehicle with a removable cap, check that the cap is correctly installed using the owner's manual instructions.
Capless filler systems require different checks. Do not assume that every related warning is caused by a loose cap, and do not expect every warning to clear immediately after a correction.
